Repetitive Stress Injury

I work as a checkout clerk at our local grocery store. I think I have Repetitive Stress Injury.

Repetitive Stress Injury (RSI), is a very common complaint. Any activity that is done repeatedly can cause an injury to the muscles or joints.

You could be a computer worker, trades worker or checkout clerk.

RSI refers to a variety of conditions including bursitis, tendinitis, frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel and tennis elbow. Excessive repetitive movements, over a period of time, cause these injuries. The repetition causes a reduction to the circulation in an area leading to tiny tears in the muscles and tendons. The tiny muscle tears become inflamed and painful.

Symptoms of RSI usually start gradually, and migrate into frequent burning, tingling or numbness. Pain sometimes travels up the arms and affect the shoulders. Often the symptoms occur at night and as they worsen you may feel pain, weakness, or numbness in the hands, fingers or wrists. Decreased grip and strength may also occur.

Acupuncture is especially well suited to treating RSI because it reduces the inflammatory response and improves the circulation of energy (QI) and blood. The improved circulation speeds up the healing process.
